Links for Caregivers
The BC Pediatric Society recommends the following sites for information regarding healthy and safe kids.
Caring for Kids is part of the Canadian Paediatric Society’s web-site for parents. It has information in English and French about children’s health from pediatricians - pregnancy, baby care, nutrition, behaviour and development, immunization, parenting, and more…Contact www.caringforkids.cps.ca or www.soinsdenosenfants.cps.ca.
The CDC offers an on-line manual on communicable diseases, which includes information on immunization. You can simply click this link to be taken directly to the CDC and the manual.
Tobaccofacts.org is designed to appeal to youth and parents alike. It provides facts about the effects of smoking, current prevention and cessation programs, links to other smoking resources - including cessation and education strategies - as well as other smoking related materials.
Cleanaircoalitionbc.com is designed to provide up to date information on a complete range of second-hand tobacco smoke issues and initiatives.

The Childhood Obesity Foundation is dedicated to identifying, evaluating, and promoting best practices for childhood obesity.
The site contains a wealth of information - about obesity, healthy eating, and active living.
Obesity matters. Excess fat is not merely unfashionable, it’s dangerous. In the young it can cause poor self esteem and be socially isolating. In adulthood it can often lead to serious illness and premature death.
Unfortunately, between 10 and 15% of our children are obese. And obesity in childhood often leads to obesity in adulthood.
